The NBA All-Star Draft Should Happen on Court, Right Before The Game!

Last week, TNT conducted its annual NBA All-Star Draft which featured the Greek Freak aka Giannis Sina Ougko Antetokounmpo and LeBron James picking their respective teams. I think we all agree that this is a great concept, but it could be even better if the teams were selected on live TV right before the start of the game.

Imagine, LeBron having to look James Harden in the face and utter the words Luka Doncic. The look on Hardens face would be priceless.

Another concept that could dramatically improve the All-Star Game is giving the players significantly more money. Sure the players are already dirty rich, but if each player on the winning team received a cool million dollars I’m willing to bet that we would actually see some defense played. Look everyone has a price, even NBA players, how else can explain those Shaq “Gold Bound” commercials.

As for the NBA All-Star game MVP award, I recommend the players select the winner. This will definitely make the game way more competitive and trust me the players all know who the real MVP is of every game they play. For example Josh Hart scored 17 points, had 6 rebounds, and 3 assists in a recent game against the Trail Blazers. Compare his numbers to Zion Williamson who scored 28 points, had 9 boards, and 6 assists. On paper Zion looks like the MVP, but for anyone who watched the entire game you would have giving the MVP of the game to Josh Hart because of all the little things he did to bring his team back from a 16 point deficit. Just looking at stats does not tell the whole picture.

The bottom line is the NBA All-Star game has turned into a track meet which includes a less than spectacular dunk for every 100 yards ran. Know one wants to see injuries in an all-star game, but if the NBA sprinkled in some additional incentives we might actually have an All-Star game worth watching.
