The internet exploded earlier in the week on the biggest NFL rumor news of the year which claims Odell Beckham Jr. could be on the move from Cleveland to the Minnesota Vikings.
Since the original rumor was published additional sources have confirmed that a deal has been discussed but has not been finalized. The latest rumor has the Vikings giving up a 2nd and 3rd round draft pick in 2021 for OBJ which is a considerable improvement for the Vikings who gave up the kitchen sink back in 1989 when they traded for Herschel Walker. The Walker deal involved 10 plus draft picks heading to The Dallas Cowboys.
In the event, this goes from rumor to a deal, everyone wins. OBJ wins because he will end up on a team that has a legit chance of making a deep playoff run. The Browns win because they will essentially be able to divorce OBJ and walk away with real value. The Vikings win because they are able to add a premier WR who can stretch the field in a way Stefon Diggs did not.
Diggs who was an outstanding player is simply a different kind or WR than OBJ. While Diggs could stretch the field, he actually spent the majority of his time mastering mid-range and slot patterns while roaming the secondary in Minnesota.
Adding a player like OBJ with a healthy Adam Thielen should open up the running game even more for Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison.
Plus, I explain why Tua Tagovailoa is a way better NFL prospect than Joe Burrow.
Where Did The Rumor Originate
The rumor can originally be traced back to Marc Malusis of WFAN: “Source has told me that the Browns and Vikings are in discussions on a trade that would send [Beckham] to the Vikings for a 2nd and 5th round pick next year. Trade is not done, but the deal is being discussed.”
