We’ve all heard the old adage that quarterbacks are coach killers. At some point, Mike Zimmer and the Vikings’ organization is going to have to make a change. If not, they all deserve to be fired. $33-million a year? Are you kidding me?
Kirk Cousins is a turnover machine. With 18 turnovers this season, only Carson Wentz has more, and he’s now riding the pines in Philly. Cousins has thrown 13 interceptions and has five fumbles lost, playing for a team that easily could have been 8-6 or 9-7 with a little help under center. His pocket presence is nearly nonexistent while his ability to extend plays and provide leadership in tight situations is next to nothing. $33-million a year? Are you kidding me?
In looking at the list of quarterbacks with the most turnovers this season, Wentz, Cousins, and Jared Goff have to be considered among the most ineffective quarterbacks in the league. Not only do they turn the ball over at a torrid pace, but they give you almost nothing in the running game. Other guys with limited mobility include Philip Rivers, Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Matt Ryan, and Drew Brees. Aside from Ryan, all of those guys will be playing in the playoffs because they take care of the ball.
Russell Wilson (17) and Jared Allen (15) are the two quarterbacks in the league that will be playing in the playoffs that have turned the ball over quite a bit this season. The difference is, Wilson has 475 yards rushing and one touchdown on the ground and Allen has 383 yards rushing and eight rushing touchdowns. In other words, the risk is worth the reward. Cousins has 155 yards rushing and zero scores. $33-million a year? Are you kidding me?
Do you want to know which starting quarterbacks don’t fumble? Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, and Philip Rivers have a combined zero lost fumbles this season. That’s right, ZERO. Is there any quarterback less mobile than those three glaciers?
Taking a look at the quarterbacks that handle the ball a lot, Aaron Rodgers (6 turnovers), Patrick Mahomes (7), DeSean Watson (8), and Ben Roethlisberger (9) have been the best in the league in 2020 in taking care of the football. Only Watson will be sitting at home for the playoffs, and that because he has a defense giving up 28 points-per-game and his top wide receiver right now is Keke Coutee.
Kirk Cousins on the other hand has Dalvin Cook, Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen, and Irv Smith. In other words, he has talent around him.
At some point, the Vikings just need to pull the plug and move on. At 29 total touchdowns and 18 turnovers, Cousins is hurting his team nearly every Sunday. In three years in Minnesota, 44 turnovers in 45 starts. $33-million a year? Are you kidding me?
I rest my case.
Jared Goff? Don’t even get me started. $33.5-million a year? Are you kidding me more?
